Stonefield Estate Resort, one of the loveliest locales on the island of St Lucia, bears the distinction of having captured the imagination of the island’s earliest known inhabitants, the Arawaks. These Amerindian people, as early as 350 A.D. were so impressed by the verdant tropical landscape and its auspicious positioning near the imposing Petit Piton that they recorded their impressions on a stone tablet which can still be seen at Stonefield Estate today.

There is a magical air about Stonefield Estate Villa Resort, which is reminiscent of an earlier, more romantic age. Set amid the lush foliage of a former lime and cocoa plantation and nestled at the base of the awe-inspiring Pitons, Stonefield Estate Villa Resort is a luxury boutique resort. It consists of several extremely attractive villas in traditional West Indian style amongst the outrageous tropical greenery of the southwest of St Lucia.

The resort boasts one of the most dramatic settings in the Caribbean, dwarfed by the Petit Piton, the 2400 ft incisor-shaped spike that soars from the water just south of Soufriere Stonefield is set on 27 acres, a swathe of a thousand greens. Gulleys exploding with tropical flora run down through the estate. Huge trees stand around, vast breadfruits, mangos and flamboyants, and at their feet there are splashes of colour - heliconias, hibiscus and bougainvillea. The resort is a former sugar, then lime and finally cocoa plantation and some structures from the earlier plantations remain.

Set among all of this, supported by massive stone retaining walls, stand the villas. The villas at Stonefield Estate Villa Resort are beautiful, airy and bright, accented with allusions to French colonial style including wide open verandas, attractive jalousie shutters and antique four posters beds. Much of the furniture, including the four poster beds, bedside tables and cabinets was made by the Architectural owner Mr Wayne Brown . Beyond the bathroom, with its his and hers basins, many of the villas have open-air, garden showers. These elegantly rustic villas and dramatic tropical backdrop afford visitors a chance to relax, luxuriate and rejuvenate. Each villa is self-contained and commands vistas of the awe-inspiring Petit Piton and the Caribbean Sea from your hammock while you and your partner retreat in a world and place from everyone else.
